This time with a four-course feast high above the Southwest wilderness at @maydenabikepark (we’re calling it a Maydinner).

There’ll only be one winner: the lucky so-and-sos who get to enjoy a night of booze, bike-chat, and bloody good views.

We’re lucky enough to have the old Grove Researc

We’re lucky enough to have the old Grove Research Orchard just up the road.

Packed full of different heritage varieties, it’s the ultimate source of inspiration for apples to trial and then hopefully plant out, to then one day be made into delicious cider.

It’s a long term game, from tasting (as the crew were with @ourmatesfarm the other day), to grafting, to a decent crop but one that’s well worth the wait 🙌

Driven past recently and wondered, what the heck is that white stuff through the orchard?

Each year we roll out reflective cloth in row after row, to bounce more of the suns UV rays back up into the underside and central areas of the trees 🌞

This helps the more hidden apples colour up, increases their fruit size and flavour. A win all round.

This is cider made the old way. Tastes like banana, custard apple, kiwi fruit and tropical fruit salad vibes swimming in a sea of cool acidity.

Not to mention our Bone Dry cans, today matched with @urban_bounty’s epic ribs.

The final Franko of 2020 is here - the Christmas special, with the best of THE best Tassie musicians lighting up the stage with jazz and soul classics.

Head on down to @streeteatsfranko from 4pm for a great line up of local food + drink producers - including a familiar cider 🧃

Santa will be gracing the stage, along with the likes of Mia Palencia, Katy Raucher (and some very special guest performers), Mr Kelly Ottaway and the Horns of Justice 🕺

Right now the orchard team are going like the clap

Right now the orchard team are going like the clappers to get thinning done before they break for Christmas.

They’re also on the look out for light brown apple moth who tend to move in and lay their eggs between now and New Year - when they know everyone’s away.

A friendly in the fight against these future leaf and fruit munchers, are earwigs - who like to eat them.

As always with nature, you win some, you lose some.
